[About the product]

ーThe history of modern medicine in Japan is steeped in the blood of many people-

From the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era (1868-1912), Japan, which was about to be reborn from the shogunate and clan system to a Western-style modern nation, focused on the acceptance and establishment of modern Western medicine in the field of medicine as well. This book uses the diaries, letters, and personal experiences of Siddall, Baldwin, Matsumoto Jun, Muller, Kuki Ryuichi, and others who contributed to the development of medicine in Japan to illustrate the path taken by modern Japanese medicine in the midst of accelerating modernization. This is an excellent book to learn about the early days of Japanese medicine.

[Comment from the stuff]

The modernization of Japan from the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate to the beginning of the Meiji era is partly due to the elimination of unequal treaties, but reading this book, I feel that a strong desire for the new world that opened up before them was a major force behind the modernization of Japan. Please read this book, which can be called a history of modern Japan from the viewpoint of medicine.
